Book Review: They Hunger by Scott Nicholson

In the rugged wilderness of the Appalachian Mountains, the treacherous Unegama River holds than its share of mortal dangers. But something deadlier than any force of nature is about to be awakened. Something both unnatural and immortal. Driven from their ancient hunting grounds, they have dwelt in their cave for hundreds of years… hiding, waiting – and hungering. Now, a group of whitewater rafter has made the mistake of passing through their hunting grounds, and for these awakened creatures of the night, their thirst for blood is about to be unleashed. (Book description from the back cover)

This is the first of many books by Scott that I hope to read. This was one of the creepiest vampire books I have ever read, and that is saying a lot, as I have been reading vampire books since I was in the first grade.

The way he describes the events makes you feel as if you were there, not just an observer. You feel for the characters, both the bad and the good.

There are a few technical errors, which I could not get past, however. Mostly to do with the firearms involved in the book. However, they were not enough to keep me from thoroughly enjoying the story.

If you like vampires, and I know you do, you should certainly read this book.

Book Review: The Harbor by Al Lamanda

What do an old hand-cranked phonograph, an old record from the 1930s, and an ancient evil, all have do with what is happening in Harbor Island, Maine? That is what faces Sheriff Mark Blaine. Mark is a former Philadelphia police officer, who had to leave the force do to crawling into the bottle after a hard shooting. He then goes to Harbor Island to become their sheriff. This is what this book has. To tell you any more, would be giving you spoilers.

This is the first book of Al Lamanda’s that I have read, and it will not be the last. I was completely engrossed, even though the first part of the book was kind of slow reading, and there were a couple of technical errors, but, as you can see, it did not detract me away from the story that much.

I will definitely not be disappointed if you bought this book. It is only $.99 in digital form, and you are certainly getting more than your money’s worth for it.

A Plea For Authors

I know, I know, “Hey Mark, where have you been? You haven’t been doing any blog posts, that’s for sure!”

Sorry, but life has intervened. I know, just an excuse, but that is all I have.

Anyway, I am here now, and I am here to ask my author friends a huge favor. I want to introduce my humble little community of Farmers Branch, TX to the wonderful world of Indie Authors, but to do that I need books to donate. Unfortunately, I cannot afford to buy these books, so this is where you come in. Indie authors, would you be willing to donate a book, or two, so I may donate it to the library? I know it costs money to print your books, but it could also mean future sales.

If you would like to donate, contact me at lewisma at swbell dot net for the address and more info. Thank you very much.

Book Review: I remember my circus by Tom S. Figueiredo

I Remember My Circus by Tom S. Figeuirdo, is some thing I had never encountered before. It is a horror story for children. It is about a little boy (who is the narrator) going to his first circus.

I really enjoyed this book. I got it so I could learn about story and sentence structure to help me out as a writer.

If you have kids (or even if you don't) you should get this book.
